Club One Seven is one of the longest-running gay saunas in Chiang Mai and is well known among locals and visitors.
The sauna is located in the southeast area of Chiang Mai Old City, near the Ping River. It consists of two traditional Thai-style buildings, with a maximum height of three floors, mainly featuring dark rooms and cruising areas. One of the buildings also includes accommodation facilities, offering a dormitory that can accommodate around 8 guests, as well as several private double rooms, suitable for overnight stays or short rest.
The regular entrance fee is 140 THB. On the 7th, 17th, and 27th of each month, special event days, the entrance fee is 199 THB. On these days, simple buffet-style food is provided on the first floor, mainly Thai dishes such as rice noodles, chicken curry, watermelon, and drinks.
The overall atmosphere is relaxed and natural. After entering the main gate, you will see a small parking area. Once you purchase a ticket at the entrance, the staff will give you a slip of paper with your locker number. You can exchange this slip for a locker key and receive a towel at the towel counter. If you need to change towels, an additional 10 THB fee applies.
The locker area is connected to the shower area and provides direct access to the steam rooms.
Club One Seven has one of the larger steam room facilities in Chiang Mai, consisting of an inner and an outer room. Each room features two levels of stone benches. Please note that some lower-level seats are close to steam outlets and can be very hot. The steam rooms are almost completely dark and are the main spaces for social interaction.
The dry sauna is relatively small and has a long, narrow layout. Compared with Club One Seven, the dry sauna at Kaikan is generally considered better.
There is an outdoor swimming pool in the courtyard, which is especially enjoyable during the summer. The pool has a classic and resort-style design. The riverside restaurant is another highlight, offering a natural and relaxing environment for drinking, chatting, and resting. Late at night, unexpected encounters may also happen here.
The second floor mainly consists of dark rooms and a cruising area. Each dark room is equipped with toilet paper. The cruising area is quite simple, basically a corridor, and there is also a small video lounge with a TV.
The third floor is usually opened only when there are more guests. It is mainly composed of dark rooms as well.
Overall, Club One Seven is considered one of the better gay saunas in Chiang Mai and even Thailand in terms of environment, offering a spacious and natural atmosphere. However, there can be many mosquitoes, so bringing insect repellent is recommended. In addition, condoms and lubricant are not provided, so please bring your own if needed.
Kaikan is another gay sauna in Chiang Mai that focuses on an Onsen (hot spring) concept. The entrance fee is 190 THB.
While Club One Seven mainly features outdoor spaces, Kaikan is centered around indoor facilities. The overall space is not large. The steam room is roughly the size of a single steam room at Club One Seven and is also completely dark.
The overall atmosphere is quiet and low-key, with most activities being discreet and side-oriented.
Kaikan has a hot spring pool, but the vibe is more about relaxation and resting. The venue clearly states that no explicit activities are allowed in the pool. Most guests simply sit, soak, or observe others. If you enjoy soaking and watching, this place may suit you.
Outside the dry sauna, there is a small lobby area with limited space. Inside the dry sauna, there are two rows of seats available.
Compared with other saunas, Kaikan has fewer dark rooms and cruising areas. Some guests choose to stand or linger briefly in the public spaces.
Regarding dark rooms, there are three lockable private rooms, and two rooms separated only by curtains, offering a mix of privacy and openness for interaction.
Overall, Kaikan maintains a clean and well-kept indoor environment. Towel changes are free of charge. Please note that the venue does not provide condoms or lubricant, so bringing your own is recommended for safety.
